Everything starts with great health!
We recently attended a screening of the awesome new film We Love Paleo in Sydney! Hosted by the lovely Alison Sims of Paleo Foodies, the movie carried a beautiful message about the amazing benefits that await you when you adopt a Paleo lifestyle.
From the perspective of doctors and entrepreneurs from 4 different countries we were taken on a journey of each persons personal Paleo experience: from despair at their previous health predicament, to sheer delight of discovering a new lease on life! See the trailer below!
We’re sure everyone got different things out of the movie, but here are four take-aways (not the ones you get from a drive-through window) we got from the film!
1. Don’t settle when it comes to your health
So many people interviewed in the movie had been battling health issues (from irritable bowel syndrome to asthma and heart problems), and some like Darryl Edwards were even told that they were going to spend the rest of their life on medications! They were told this is ‘just the way it is’ and to ‘just put up with it’. But people like Darryl chose not to settle for a mediocre existence, and through personal research and experimentation have become to healthiest version of themselves!!! So inspiring!!
2. Weight isn’t the marker of health
Let’s face it: most countries are becoming more overweight. But whilst this is the common metric to measure our health, it’s not the whole story. For one, you can be skinny and super unhealthy. You could be carrying internal fat around the organs, or you could be malnourished if you are restricting the amount of calories you are consuming.
In the end, it’s not about how you look, it’s how you feel (physically and mentally) that matters more!
3. No one needs to give you permission to succeed
Self-diagnosis and a diet tailored to peoples preferences was a common theme in We Love Paleo. What stuck out for us was that nobody told them to go on their Paleo journey (especially not their doctors). They discovered Paleo for themselves and so granted themselves permission to transform their eating, health and life.
The amazing thing we find about the Paleo community is it’s full of self-motivated individuals who are passionate about helping other people. They too, don’t wait around to be asked to do something.
4. It’s a gateway to lifestyle improvements and other awesome things
Many of the inspiring people interviewed in the film noted that after they changed their lifestyle, it extended to other improvements in their life – from weights training and functional movement, sleep optimisation, to starting their own business! From Paleo food trucks in Austin, Texas to annual paleo conventions, as well magazines and restaurants – it was so awesome to see these guys all blazing their own trail!
To borrow the title from one our favourite books: It starts with food, but it doesn’t end there! Their journey took them to places we bet they never imaged! It makes us confident that this Paleo thing will endure 🙂
We Love Ali!
Quick side note: we’d like to pay special homage to Alison from Paleo Foodies. She played a big part in our health journey as Nat’s first personal trainer back in 2014 when we started training at the awesome Signature Fitness in Bondi. We got to catch up with her after the movie and hear about what she has planned next – it’s pretty exciting so definitely sign up to her newsletter for updates!
